Girvan beat the big freeze
Girvan’s Ayrshire District League game at home to Muirkirk was the only match from the 31 scheduled matches to survive the big freeze in the West of Scotland Junior Region and the Hamilton Park side were delighted it went ahead as they romped to a 8-0 win.
It was a special day for midfielder John McMillan who netted four penalties with Dale McLelland and Craig Harvey both scoring doubles to lift the Seasiders up to sixth place in the table.
It was McLelland who got the romp off and running in the first minute when he shot home and he quickly doubled Girvan’s advantage with McMillan netting his first from the spot to make the score 3-0 by half-time.
McMillan then netted three further spot kicks in a row with all four penalties being awarded for tackles in the box with referee Jordan Paterson booking 3 visiting players and not brandishing his red card.
Harvey made it seven against a tiring Muirkirk side before making it eight just before the end.
Girvan now sit 21 points behind leaders Kilwinning Rangers having played two games less with struggling Muirkirk 3 points adrift of Annbank having now conceded 46 goals in their 9 league games.
