McMillan is new Whitletts manager

McMILLAN APPOINTED VICS’ BOSS

Steph McMillan has been appointed the new manager of Whitletts Victoria.

The former Annbank United boss was appointed following a meeting on Thursday night and will officially take charge of the Dam Park side in the New Year once he has served his current ban which runs out at the end of the year. McMillan brings with him a strong backroom team of former Irvine Meadow player Jimmy Noble, former Hibernian and Ayr United defender Jonathan Baillie and goalkeeping coach Dave Clark.

Chairman Colin McTrusty welcomed McMillan to the Club and stated that he was the number one choice for the position and that the Club are delighted to get their man.

“There were a number of experienced junior managers who were interested in the post” said McTrusty “but amongst the board it was clear that Steph was the man that we wanted for the role and we are delighted that he has agreed to join the Club.”

“Steph has a great knowledge of junior football, both as a player and a manager and has a great knowledge of the local football scene. He did a fantastic job at Annbank United and kept them in the Superleague and we are confident that he is the right man to take Whitletts Victoria onto the next level.”

McMillan’s first objective is to secure Whitletts place in the Superleague First Division, which they currently prop up, 10 points adrift of safety. But that is a challenge he believes can be achieved and is one that he is relishing.

“I am delighted to have been appointed the manager of Whitletts Victoria and look forward to the challenge ahead to retain our Superleague status. This may seem a tall order to some but I believe that we can catch the teams that are above us and once we get that first win below our belt, I’m sure the confidence will grow.”

“To achieve that goal we will need to strengthen the squad and I’ve 2 or 3 players in mind that I think will add additional quality to the squad and I’ll be working hard over the next few weeks to bring them in.”

Jimmy Noble and Jonathan Baillie will be in charge for Whitletts Victoria’s next match away to Kilbirnie next Saturday (29thDecember) with Steph McMillan taking up his place in the dugout for the first time at Kello the following weekend.
