Currie and Banjo go Junior

Arbroath midfielder Paul Currie has left the Gayfield club to join junior side Bonnyrigg Rose despite playing in 26 games for the Red Lichties this season.

The 27 year old former Berwick Rangers and Hamilton Accies midfielder joined Pail Sheerin’s side from Musselburgh Juniors in the summer after being released by the New Douglas Park side in January and being unable to play for another senior team as he had already turned out for the Shielfield men earlier in the season.

The return of Ross Chisholm to maroon colours had pushed Currie out of a starting slot and Gayfield boss Sheerin said: “Paul is a quality player who was offered an 18 month deal from Bonnyrigg and decided to take it. He will do very well for them and score a lot of goals.”

Currie added: “I have scored goals at Division One, Two and Three but I wanted a change. It never really worked for me at Arbroath but I wish them well for the rest of the season.”

Currie’s former Arbroath team mate, defender David Banjo has moved to junior side Kinnoul to get some game time under his belt.
