McGonigal steps down at Hamilton
Hamilton Accies director Allan McGonigal has resigned from the First Division club to allow him to concentrate fully on his other footballing role as manager and Director of Football at junior side Bo’ness.
McGonigal was brought in by the New Douglas Park side two and a half years ago as their reserve team manager and he was invited onto the board 12 months ago at the request of departing chairman Ronnie Macdonald.
The former Berwick Rangers boss has opted to leave as he was finding it difficult to do either job to his satisfaction as he explained: “I recently took on the manager’s job at Bo’ness again after Paul Ronald left however I was struggling to give it my full attention due to my work at Hamilton.”
“I have enjoyed working there and playing my part in bringing players through to Billy Reid’s first team squad but I did not have the time to do either role as well as I can. Choosing to leave Hamilton was difficult but at least now I can give Bo’ness my full attention.”
