Whitletts look to help out neighbours
VICS VOW TO HELP AYRSHIRE RIVALS
Whitletts Victoria have vowed to do all they can to help Ayrshire rivals Maybole and Kello retain their Superleague status when the Ayr club take on Kilsyth Rangers at Dam Park on Saturday in their final league match of the current campaign.
Depending on their midweek results against relegation threatened Thorniewood and promotion chasing Renfrew, Kilsyth travel to Dam Park in what will also be the Duncansfield clubs’ final league game of the season, knowing that their Superleague survival is very much in their own hands with victory all but ensuring their place in the First Division next season. But the Whitletts camp are determined to get a result that will leave Kello and Maybole’s destiny in their own hands.
Vics may be already relegated to the Ayrshire District League next season along with Ardrossan but there is a real prospect that FOUR Ayrshire sides could go down with Kello Rovers and Maybole fighting for survival.
And Vics’ manager Steph McMillan says that that would be a disaster for the Ayrshire game and that his squad are up for helping out their Ayrshire rivals.
“This is Whitletts final league match of the season and we have known our fate for some time. That is why since I took over as manager at the Club the focus has been very much on building a squad capable of returning to the Superleague at the first attempt and this match is the last chance for some players to prove to me that they should be retained for that campaign.”
“But it would be a travesty for the junior game in Ayrshire if both Maybole and Kello were also relegated to join us and Ardrossan in the Ayrshire District League next season. That would not be a good advert for the junior game in Ayrshire.”
“Although there are other teams in the mix, such as Rutherglen and Thorniewood, they still have games in hand while Kilsyth will play their final league match against us at Dam Park on Saturday and both Maybole and Kello can be assured that Whitletts Victoria will give everything to gain the three points that will give them (Maybole & Kello) the best possible opportunity to ensure their place in the Superleague next season.”
The match at Dam Park this Saturday kicks off at 2pm
