Whitletts Vics sign McCulloch
Whitletts Victoria have signed former Auchinleck Talbot and Beith midfielder Derek McCulloch.
The former Hurlford United boss played as a trialist in Vics’ 2-1 win at Ardeer on Saturday and after the match agreed a deal to join the Dam Park club. And despite his age, manager Steph McMillan believes that the 40 year old McCulloch is just the type of player he needs on the park to bolster his sides fortunes.
“Derek is a quality footballer with loads of experience in the junior game and he has kept himself fit by turning out this season for Hurlford Amateurs. He is naturally very fit and reads the game very well and his organisational skills gave us a presence on the park on Saturday that until now we had been lacking” said McMillan. “I’m positive that he’ll be a major asset for us in our bid to return to the Superleague.”
Meanwhile midfielder Craig Rodgers has left the club by mutual consent.
The versatile player, who can also play sweeper or in either full back positions, has failed to command a regular starting place in the Vics’ side this season and wants to return to the amateur ranks to allow him to play on a regular basis.
“Craig is a very good player and possibly his versatility has counted against him this season as he has been unable to command a regular berth in the side and I’m sure he will do a good job for a top amateur side if he can get a regular run of games below his belt” said McMillan.
“He will do a good job for any club and he leaves us with the best wishes of everyone at Whitletts Victoria.”
