Graham Longair XI v Dukla Pumpherston
Friends, Family & Whitletts Victoria supporters turned out at Dam Park on Sunday for a great afternoon's entertainment for the first event for Graham Longair’s testimonial.
The event, sponsored by The Black Bull, Restoraroof and Arena Office Limited, had a festival feel about it with face painting, bouncy castles and much, much more to keep everyone entertained.
The main event however was the match between a Graham Longair XI and Dukla Pumpherston, the charity side made up of former players and celebrities. Dukla captain, former Scotland defender Brian Martin, made a presentation to Graham Longair on behalf of Dukla before the game
The game itself was an entertaining affair. Ayr United manager Mark Roberts opened the scoring early on and that set the tone for a fantastic match with goals galore. For some of the former players on show, the legs may not be able to run as fast but there was certainly plenty of ability on show with former Ayr star Henry Templeton turning back the clock with a sublime finish for his first goal of the afternoon.
Man of the Match, Graham Longair, playing in a more advanced role than normal, scored a couple of well taken goals but gave up the chance to complete his hat trick, allowing lifelong Vics’ fan Brian Kennedy the opportunity to score from the penalty spot at the second attempt!
Former Dundee star Albert Craig also scored a couple of fine goals for Dukla while Vics centre half Raymond Buchanan came on as a second half substitute and blasted home a couple of well taken goals.
The main event of Graham’s Testimonial has still to come when Ayr United will provide the opposition on a date still to be arranged.
