VICS’ ISSUE RALLYING CALL
Manager Steph McMillan has issued a rallying call to the Ayr footballing public to back the town’s junior club as Whitletts Victoria prepare for their promotion prospects to be given a stern test this Saturday when league leaders Ardeer Thistle visit Dam Park.
The Ayr side go into this match lying third in the table, five points behind the league leaders and a home win would be a major boost to the Dam Park sides hopes of promotion to the West Superleague First Division next season.
And McMillan believes that the kind of backing the club received in their recent Scottish Junior Cup win over Superleague outfit Yoker could be a key factor in determining whether or not the points remain in Ayr.
“Against Yoker we had over 300 people there who were supporting Whitletts and the atmosphere was amazing. There’s no doubt in my mind that that fantastic support helped to spur on the players in that magnificent second half display” said McMillan.
“This game on Saturday is arguable even more important to our season. It's a huge game and victory could be key to our promotion ambitions. We’ve already beaten Ardeer this season on their own patch but they have improved their squad since then and Derek Cook’s side have recorded some impressive results.”
“At the start of the season promotion was and remains our number one priority and if most of the people who turned up for the Yoker match were to return and back the Club in this game it would give the players a massive boost and that 12th man backing may well make the difference between the sides on the day.”
The match kicks off at Dam Park on Saturday with a 2pm kick off. Entry is £4 adults, £2 concessions with kids under 16 FREE.
