Whitletts Vics : News
TON UP BALFOUR Whitletts Victoria’s Tony Balfour hit an important milestone in Saturday’s Ayrshire Cup tie with Girvan at Dam Park as the Vics’ hitman broke to 100 goal barrier for the Club. The 24 year old striker reached the milestone with his first half penalty in a 1-2 defeat Local lad Balfour joined Ayr’s Junior Club from Craigmark Burntonians in the summer of 2013 and his outstanding scoring feats since has seen him reach the century tally in just 84 (+1 sub) competitive games. An incredible average of over one goal per game. It took Balfour until his fifth match in a Whitletts jersey to find the net, which ironically was also against Girvan at Dam Park in an Ardagh Cup tie. Since then his scoring feats have seen him net five goals in three league and cup matches, most recently against Saltcoats last month, as well as a further SEVEN hat tricks.
Whitletts Chairman John Dalton praised Balfour’s contribution to the Club. “Tony is a phenomenal striker who simply loves scoring goals and to score so many in such a short space of time is an incredible feat, no matter what level of the game you play at.” “He has a great temperament for a forward. If he misses an opportunity he simply shrugs his shoulders and tucks away the next one that comes along. When he’s enjoying his football as he is just now, he is a defenders worst nightmare as they know they are in for a torrid afternoon when they see him lining up against them. He is a very important part of the team that Neil Duffy is building already with next season in mind.” On his facebook page, Balfour expressed his delight at reaching the 100 milestone and outlined his commitment to Vics. He posted “Absolutely delighted to have scored my 100th goal in a Whitletts Victoria jersey. Hopefully many more to come.”
