Whitletts Vics : News
Whitletts Victoria are delighted to announce the signing of Bobby Colligan who will go straight into the Vics squad to play one of his former clubs, Irvine Victoria, on Saturday.
The 27 year old midfielder, who has also played for Glenafton Athletic and Ardrossan Winton Rovers, played three games for Whitletts recently as a trialist against Larkhall, Kello Rovers and Dalry Thistle where his impressive performances have earned him a Dam Park deal.
Manager George Grierson was delighted to sign Colligan, who he states has joined the club for footballing reasons.
“I’m over the moon that Bobby has agreed to put pen to paper to join Whitletts” said George, who is currently recovering from a hip operation."
“He made an instant impact coming off the bench in his first game as a trialist against Larkhall, setting up four goals as well as scoring himself and against Kello and Dalry has produced very impressive performances. He is a talented and experienced junior player who fits in well with our playing style, ethos and buys into what we are trying to achieve at Whitletts.”
“Bobby had a number of clubs interested in his services where he was offered a lot more money than we can afford but he is enjoying his game at Whitletts and has bought into what we are trying to achieve at the club, both on and off the park so has come to the Club for footballing reasons.”
“We are a small club. We don’t have the financial backing that some other clubs in our division have to pay the ridiculous wages and transfer fees that are being offered and paid by some clubs. But we are doing well on the park at the moment and with the community work that we are progressing with through our Vics in the Community charity, we are hoping to build the grassroots support that we will require to continue our development as a club in years to come.”
“This Vics team is playing very well at the moment following our promotion last season and the signing of Bobby Colligan will further enhance that. Our goal at Whitletts is to not only to build a winning team but build a club that is capable of making a mark on the junior game and make the town of Ayr proud of its’ junior team.”
